In the Toonami Asia dub produced by Bang Zoom! In a rare English dub of the anime produced in the Philippines by Creative Products Corporation, Gohan was voiced by Ethel Lizano who also directed that dub. Galang, who was 12 years old at the time he voiced Gohan. Appearances[ edit ] In Dragon Ball[ edit ] Gohan is introduced as the five year-old son of the series protagonist Gokunamed after his adoptive great-grandfather.
Described as well-mannered and reserved, Gohan's story begins following his abduction by the extraterrestrial Saiyan named Raditzwho is also his uncle. While Goku is pinned to the ground, Gohan's extreme distress explodes with the release of his dormant power, which allows him to injure Raditz. Piccolo then takes Gohan away following the fight and Goku's death, and trains him for the upcoming battle against the two other Saiyans, Vegeta and Nappathough Piccolo is aware that training the son of his greatest enemy will be a risk.
Gohan, along with Krillin and Vegeta, are then forced into an encounter with Friezawho seeks the Dragon Balls for immortality. Shortly after the fight with Freeza begins, Krillin is impaled by one of Freeza's horns.
Freeza stops Gohan as he tries to save Krillin, who has now been thrown into the ocean below, and he mocks him, saying it is pointless to try to save his friend since he and Vegeta are both about to die.
Gohan is extremely angered by being unable to save Krillin and attacks Freeza without hesitation. He manages to knock Freeza into a small island below, and then he blasts him with a series of energy blasts before ending the attack with a Masenko.
Freeza is able to send it back at Gohan without taking any damage, but he is once again shocked that a child could produce such an attack. Shortly after this, Freeza transforms into his original and most powerful form.
Once he does this he immediately kills Dendea young Namekian who had been secretly healing Gohan, Krillin, Piccolo and Vegeta. However, he is unable to land even a single blow.
Gohan is shown to settle back into school life on Earth, waiting for Goku to return home from Namek. After Trunks kills Freeza and his father King Cold then tells Goku about the Androids, Gohan goes into the wilderness with Goku and Piccolo to train for the upcoming threat. Gero Android 20 activate Androids 17 and 18 and Cell is discovered, Gohan enters the Room of Spirit and Time with Goku where they train for 1 year 1 day on earth, however in their case according to Mr.
Popo, Goku and Gohan still had 3 hours left in the room, but they came out having finished their training earlier than expected. Gohan makes the jump to Super Saiyan while he is in the chamber and after they emerge, both Goku and Gohan retain the physical characteristics of a Super Saiyan without any of the drawbacks of its form increased aggression, energy loss, etc.
After Goku initially fights Cell but realizes later that he cannot defeat him, Gohan is called to fight to the surprise of everyone else and Cell. During the fight, Gohan asks Cell to stop the Cell Games tournament and then he tells him about his power.
Cell, instead of heeding Gohan's warning, attacks him in an effort to force Gohan to show his true power. Gohan holds his own for a while until Cell becomes impatient and bored. This backfires, however; he waits too long to finish Cell, who decides to self-destruct when transformed back to his semi-perfect form, as a last-ditch effort to destroy Gohan and the Earth.
Goku, in an act of self-sacrifice, uses teleportation to take Cell to Kaio-sama 's planet. Thinking Cell dead, the fighters lower their guard only to be surprised by a blast that kills Trunks. Cell returns, having regenerated from a single Cell that survived the blast, and also adopted the instant transmission technique.
Frieza, of all people, becomes this. Put simply, no one in the tournament is on his levelsince the story is post-series and everyone else has either beaten him or beaten the guys who beat him and trained up.
The only exceptions are the people who are too weak to fight him, who forfeit instantly. In more than eight hundred strips, he still hasn't won a fight. He gets humiliated and killed in Universes 3 and 7 and it's obvious the same thing will happen in others, like U13it's been hinted that even in the one where he won he had some troubles, and it already seems that he will be defeated by U18 Goku without having landed a single hit on an opponent. Even Nappa manages to mock him.
To a much lesser extent, Dabura.
He spends many chapters weakly asking to be healed before actually being healed. U10 is downright stated to be the weakest universe, which shows. To make matters worse, the official novelization following U10's forfeit shows Vegeta attempting to hijack the Varga's ship, only to be stopped by Nail and Cargo. He and Bardock watch Porunga revive everybody BUT the Saiyans and they are forced to work labour on planet Namek until Vegeta is thrown back to planet Vegeta and beaten for a second time by Nail, in front of his entire planet.
Many of the universes where the villains won are the result of a seemingly minor change in the timelines that snowballed into the heroes losing.
Universes 1 and 10 had the Kaioshin eradicate every threat they found. Freeza being dead, the Saiyans never had a technology or power boost and never became space pirates.
Universe 3 diverged when Bardock put to good use his prophetic visions and managed to take Freeza down, with Saiyans taking over the galaxy, Kakarot never being sent to Earth, and then Raichi taking revenge on the Saiyans. Piccolo Daimao also fused with Kami, through yet unknown circumstances, with an evil Piccolo being the dominant personality. Universe 4 diverged when Majin Buu opted to quickly absorb Vegeta when he threatened to remove Fat Buu from his cocoon rather than plead with him.
Goku is then forced to fight on his own, where he is horribly outclassed; even his Hail-Mary of expending his full power to blow Buu up failed miserably and Buu simply absorbed him as well. Universe 6 diverged when Goku did not warp back to Earth to save Gohan against Bojack and give him a pep talk.
Universe 7 diverged when all the Nameks decided to fuse into one being to take down Freeza, losing forever the ability to create Dragonballs in the process. Universe 8, where Freeza and his family won, came about because Krilin killed Vegeta on Earth before Goku could stop him.
Since Vegeta doesn't show up on Namek, he's not around to provide an extra distraction to Freeza or his henchmen, which eventually culminates in Freeza killing everyone on Namek except Goku, which remained alive to destroy Freeza's capital.

Universe 9, where non-human heroes never came into being, leading the Earthlings to step up their game and face threats from outer space on their own. The only clue we have so far is Krilin referring to the Frost demons as "Coola's empire", hinting at maybe Freeza getting shifted out of the picture around the time he destroyed planet Vegeta. Also, Coola's special hints at events not unfolding the same specifically in Universe 9, so it is likely he also did act on the impulse of killing baby Goku then.
Otherwise it is similar to Universe 1. Universe 11, where Babidi kept his control over Buu and defeated the heroes. It is now confirmed that U11 is the unseen timeline, the universe in which Trunks came back in the past to save Goku from his heart disease, but not Cell.

Without Cell, Kami decided there was no compelling reason to fuse back into one being. This eventually snowballed into a situation with our heroes not being strong enough to face Babidi and his goons. It is known Babidi tried possessing Vegeta but ended up with the same results as in canon. Universe 12, where Trunks came back strong to the future and saved his world from the scourge of the androids and Cell.
Universe 13, where Kakarot never hit his head and thus never lost his Saiyan mentality. So, instead of him becoming the cheerful and kindhearted man in canon, he becomes a ruthless killer who is more than a little mentally unbalanced.
It goes without saying that humanity isn't around in U13 anymore. Universe 14 diverged when Trunks never came back to the future after his U17 counterpart got killed by Cell, thus ensuring the cyborgs could have free reign. It is likely the timeline where Trunks got intel from the past but never found Cell's embryo, came back to the Future to deactivate the cyborgs, but got killed by Cell who stole his time-machine, thus creating an universe with no strong warriors left.

Universe 16 diverged when Vegito made the choice to not remove his shield aura effect when inside Buu, and remained fused forever, freeing everyone and destroying Kid Buu before he could destroy the Earth. Also, Enma did not listen to his request to reincarnate him into Oob, so in this universe there is no Buu.
Universe 17 diverged when Vegeta did not strike Cell in the back and distract him. Universe 19 diverged when Raditz killed Goku, Piccolo, and Gohan on Earth, according to the french novelization. This led to them attacking Helior with reduced numbers, and Helior probably weathered the assault, and stepped up their game.
Universe 20 diverged when Broly survived his second coming, after being thrown into space by the heroes, and did not burn in the Sun. The maximum audience rating was 8. Cox was also surprised that, considering how popular the franchise is, the series did not launch internationally at the same time. He called it "a move that wouldn't be unprecedented" giving Sailor Moon Crystal as an example. Siegel also noted that the premiere episode was more of a "where are they now" introduction to the series that will eventually help build anticipation for "where will they be.
However, the fifth episode received harsh criticism from Japanese and Western audiences due to its poor animation style compared to the previous four episodes.
He said that people were criticizing the entire series based on a few bad sequences that were done by new animators. He went on to explain a quality decline in the anime industry that he believes is the result of studios cutting time given for post-production and not allowing for reviews of the final product. However, the Champa Arc was praised for improving its animation. Episode 39 of the series was critically acclaimed for its improved animation and praised fighting sequences.
